W-G Parents,
Lockers: MS: We are still having locker issues in the MS. They were to be painted and fixed over the summer. The painting was done and they look nice. The fixing part was not done and we are still working with the company to return to fix them. The HS lockers are to be here at 9:00 am tomorrow. That is the good news! The bad news is that they will not ALL be installed tomorrow at 9:00 am so we are still being patient.
Handbooks: Attached you will find the 2009-10 MS and HS Handbooks. We are having problems getting them on the website and have been trying for over 2 months. Let me know if you have questions! We did not print and hand these out to attempt to save money!
Conferences: Conferences this year will be arena style where all the teachers will be in the gym and you will be able to talk to whichever teacher you want. We received a lot of positive feedback from parents last spring. One negative comment was that the teachers were too close together, but in the new gym that should not be an issue. Those dates are Nov. 10 and Nov. 12 from 3 to 8 pm. We will be sending out more info about conferences.
Schedule:
Today Oct. 16th:
7:30 pm Varsity Football vs. Manson-NW Webster (T)
Saturday Oct. 17th:
9:00 am Volleyball Girls Varsity W-G Invitational HS Gym
Monday Oct. 19th:
5:30 W-G School Board meeting at Granger Elementary Music room
6:00 pm Football Boys Junior Varsity Woodward Granger vs. Southeast Webster High School
Tuesday Oct. 20th:
7:00 pm Regional 1st Round VB @ WGHS W-G vs. Panorama
Friday Oct. 23rd:
7:30 pm Varsity Football vs. Audubon (T)
Please call me or your child’s teachers if you have questions and you are always welcome to email!
Have a great weekend!

Dear WGHS Hawk Parents,
We are inviting you to be a part of the WG HS Booster Club this year. What does the Booster Club do? We are non-profit organization that supplements the athletic and fine arts departments. With the tightening budgets, we are needed more than ever! Our major fundraiser event is supplying volunteers to “man” a home Iowa State University football concession stand. At each of the 6 home games, we need 25 volunteers (parents and students) to make this work. If your student is involved in an extra curricular activity, we need your help. Please call the high school office at 438-2115 to sign up for the three remaining games-October 17th, November 7th, and 14th. We are on pace to raise $9000 for the season which means this money is coming from outside our community!
In the past few years, our money has been spent towards the baseball lights and a pitching machine, money towards new marching band jackets, a basketball shooting machine, travel bags and warm up shirts for the basketball teams, a strength machine and a two man sled for football, a specialist coach for volleyball camps, passes at the Dome for the golf teams, two sets of hurdles for track, wrestling mat carts, wrestling scoreboards, pep buses for state wrestlers, chorographers for cheerleaders, pom-poms, make up supplies for the drama department, meals for band and cheerleader at their yearly appreciation night, meals for volleyball and football teams participating in playoff games, equipment for the softball team, art tables, weight room machines, new chains for the football field and a tarp floor covering for the gyms.
We also organize the sports posters, provide the desserts during the intermission at the plays, provide a Homecoming meal and auction items, manage baseball and softball concession stands in the summer, concession stand at the Jazz Festival, sell Hawk Spirit items and award 4-6 scholarships in the spring.
Our teams and fine arts departments have really turned around to become conference champs, advancing further into district play and qualifying kids at the state level. We believe with the “extras” we can provide, our programs can only get stronger. The money earned this fall, goes directly into the programs by February 1st so we need all to get involved!
The W-G Booster Club meets at 6:00 pm the first Wednesday of each month at the Granger Elementary. You can look for the meeting dates on the W-G website under “Hot Topics”. Please come and join us and bring any new ideas or suggestions you may have.
Thank you in advance.

2009 H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu) Update
Dear W-G Families & Friends,
I am writing today to inform you that the District has received the first reports of confirmed cases of the H1N1 Flu throughout both Woodward and Granger. With this announcement the intent is not to spread panic or fear about this highly publicized influenza but more to inform you of the manner in which all public entities in the state have been instructed to handle the situation.
The Iowa Department of Public Health is focused on early detection and systematic suggestions for dealing with the rapid spread of the flu. These recommendations are outlined below.
1) Any child that is experiencing any or all of the following symptoms is encouraged to remain at home until such time that the symptoms have passed. In addition it is recommended that an additional 24-hours of symptom free conditions elapse before returning to school or a public setting. The flu symptoms are outlined below.
(fever, cough, sore throat, runny/stuffy nose, vomiting, diarrhea, aches, chills and/or fatigue) Note: not everyone with the flu will have a fever
2) Remember the three C's:
• Clean your hands frequently;
• Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your sleeve; and
• Contain germs by staying home when ill.
•
3) Iowa Public Health recommends that children under 2, adults that are 65 and
older, pregnant women and individuals with pre-existing medical illnesses are at the highest risk for flu complications and should consult a health care physician immediately if symptoms persist.
At this time there are no concrete guidelines on what to do if the total absent student population reaches a certain percentage or level. The decision will be made locally as to continue with and/or cancel school in the event that the outbreak warrants.
Prevention, detection and the three C’s are the tools put forth to guide schools in dealing with this issue. If you have any further questions regarding the H1N1 Flu and or the contents of this article please refer to the following website http://www.idph.state.ia.us/ or contact the District office at (515)438-4263.
Respectfully,
