The Flood

I am starting to feel like this school year is a little like the US post office. We are working through snow, sleet, flood and so on.

The Flood – We had a major malfunction of the new heating and cooling in the High School. We had six coils freeze and burst. We found this on Sunday Jan. 4th at 1:00 pm. The classrooms have since been dried out and are now in the process of redoing. Which includes re-dry walling and repainting. Cleaning carpets and re installing base. The hallways were re waxed over the break and are now in need of re waxing again. I will try to post some pictures to my blog.

The new HS is on the road to recovery. We will be able to get back into five rooms on Monday. Five more the next Monday and completely finished “again” on February 1st. The students and staff have been very good at making the best of a not so good situation.

I was talking to a painter who was setting up to start in repainting. I said let us know when we need to block off areas and close corridors and stuff. Then I asked about where they were going to leave their paint and I told them that our students are pretty good and that their paint should not cause a problem. To which they replied, “Ya, we know, we had students holding doors open for us as we were bringing the paint in! They would never do that when we were in Des Moines.” Hats off to our students and you as parents!

Hopefully we can look back at this and laugh.

Snow Days - Please encourage your students to finish the semester strong. We are moving the end of the semester back to Friday Jan. 29. The school board is deciding Monday night about making up some days. It looks like we will go to school on Monday Jan. 25. Also we might be going to school on March 4th as well and that will make our last day of school June 8th. Again nothing is set yet but that is the recommendation.

Have a great weekend! Go Hawks!
