W-G Parent Email(3-26-10)

HAPPY 40th B-day to My Wife!!

I am tempted to just put my email on my blog only and just send the link. I will not do that to you yet!!!

All-State Speech is Monday at UNI.
Good Luck Amber! Maybe we can You-Tube her speech for all to see. We might have to rate it (PG-13) but it is very good! I will try to figure out how to do that and get that on my blog.(I will ask a student!!!)

Schedule Change: The Board voted Tuesday to go to a Seven Period day next year where two days are Blocked. So Tuesday only periods 1,3,5, and 7 will meet, but they will be longer. On Wednesday, only periods 2,4, and 6 will meet, but they will be longer. Since we have professional Development on Wednesday it will work out very nicely. We hope to have the schedule on paper early next week. I am very excited. I think we can do some good things with this schedule. The tricky part right now is figuring out the Middle School. It is going to be a lot of work for the teachers, changing their classes to fit the time, but I am confident they can do it!

Sorry about changing the scheduling nights this week but it was suggested to wait until the decision on next year's schedule was made. Our new Dates are Thursday, April 8th for current 9-11 graders and Monday, April 19 for the Freshman orientation (Current 8th Graders). Both meeting will be held at 6:30 pm and in the MS/HS auditorium.

End of the quarter: Please make sure your students are getting in any work that they have missed!

A Big Thank You! Thanks to our MS Student Council students who volunteered to help at Kindergarten round up. I know the elementary appreciates their help. I know they will be great representatives of our Middle School.

Prom: Reminder Prom is April 17. There is a charge for the Dinner and Dance, but the After Prom is free and open to all Juniors and Seniors. The Prom is open to all Current Juniors and Seniors and their dates. The dates must be in grades 9 -12 or less than 21 years of age. If your student's date does not meet these requirements they need to have that student approved by the administration. (this was not a problem last year!) The goal of prom is that everyone have a fun safe evening. Please if you have any questions please ask!

6-12 Parents:

• GO GREEN!!! To help with the cabin fever and the end of winter (maybe) we had a Fire Drill on Thursday when the weather was in the sixties. After the fire drill we met in front of the school and handed out ice cream treats to the HS and MS student body and staff. We had gluten free and sugar free treats available for everyone who needed those, as well! This idea was conceived by the Building Leadership team as a small "Thank You" for the students’ behavior during the flooding of the HS. The MS was invaded by the HS, the rooms were open, everyone seemed to take it in stride and made the best of the situation. The students were very appreciative, maybe even a little shocked!!! Thanks again to all the staff and students!!

• 8th Grade Science Fair:
The 8th grades had their science fair in the Cafeteria and Auditorium Thursday during 1st and 3rd hours. I was unable to make the 1st period fair but was able to go 3rd hour. It was very interesting for all involved. Many hours of work were put into their projects. The HS science students were able to listen to the presentations as well.

• Scheduling Night for the HS students
(Current 8-11 graders): We had dates scheduled but we are postponing those dates. We try to have these meeting early in the spring when there are not activities happening every night of the week. We will keep you posted!

• Speech Competition Very Successful:
This past month, 9 of our students participated in the District Individual Speech competition. We had 7 students qualify for state competition. Amber McNeil qualified in two events. At state, 6 of those events received a I rating. Amber McNeil received a I on both of her events and was chosen to go to All-State for her Literary Program. She will be performing on Monday, March 22nd at UNI.

• MS Dance tonight from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm put on by the MS Student Council.

Have a great weekend!!! Go Green!
