W-G Parents:
The MS-HS staff is participating in professional development opportunities to increase their awareness of available technological applications for teaching and learning (Web 2.0 tools). This was enlightening for all and generated a buzz around a new way of delivering instruction and learning. I learned about what teachers need to know to incorporate technology into the classroom. First they need to know what content(Content Knowledge) they are teaching. It may be fractions in math or compound interest or some form of poetry or some time in history. The next thing they need to know is their pedagogy. (Pedagogical Knowledge)(pedagogy is a fun sounding term of how they are going to teach something. It may be through lecture, cooperative learning, individual practice....) Then the last knowledge is the knowledge of technology. We have been focusing on the last knowledge of technology. We also have to pick and choose some that we learn because of what technology we have to use.
Next week is Staff Appreciation Week. If you would like to shock a MS or HS teacher, have your student send them a note or an email thanking them for something the teacher did. Maybe even send one to an elementary teacher they respected!

Jim Uthe brought the meeting to order.
The first item up for discussion was the T-Ball field. We need to make certain the field is put back into the same condition it was left since T Ball practice is beginning this weekend. We will be meeting at the T Ball field southeast of the football field tonight at 5:30 to clean up any material left by contractors and make sure the field will be ready. We are asking any volunteers to meet at the field at 5:30 tonight to help clean up. There are still bleachers that belong to Perry we used for the football playoff that will be moved and hauled away this Friday.
Jim asked about ordering the bleachers. He spoke with the bleacher company and gave them a verbal agreement. They could be delivered by July 24th. We still need to raise money to pay for these bleachers. He has not yet signed a contract at this time.
Dick Boies with the George Long company spoke with Jim about the Goalposts. He is honoring his sale price from last December of $2895. Jim asked if we wanted to go ahead with purchasing new goalposts. Th subject remains under discussion. Dick also mentioned to Jim about getting a quote for the irrigation from Bob Lenc Landscaping, as he has worked with them on other complexes. We will review a bid from Bob Lenc Landscaping. He also mentioned he could possibly get us a discount on our bleacher price of about 20%. He also mentioned he has a contact at Wells Fargo that may help us with a new scoreboard. At this point, we are considering using the old scoreboard. All these items are still under review and discussion to see what bids come in and if they are under our current bids and will be directly influenced by funds we still need to raise to cover these items.
The third week in May is when Fisher Tracks will be working on putting the rock and asphalt down for the track. The Polymat will NOT be put down at that time unless we have raised additional funding to cover the cost by then.
Committee Updates
Approval of bills ~ Amy submitted a bill to be paid and there may be a bill coming for the installation of the lights on the poles.
Finance ~ Total amount raised: $449,122.00 We still have outstanding pledges of $171,600 of that total that need to be collected. We currently have $51,000. in the bank as of 3/31/10
Fundraising ~ The Raffle is still ongoing. Lance is still working to determine an event and place to wrap up the Raffle and draw the winning entry on May 28th. You can still buy Raffle tickets by contacting a committee member or going to the Hawk Stadium website here: http://wgstadium.webs.com/fundraisers.htm
The Carnival and Pancake breakfast we held the past two Saturdays brought in some funds. A brick was purchased at the Carnival and a few hurdles. We hosted a free face painting booth and had our information for the stadium project on display hoping to get interest from parents of our younger athletes and raise more funds.
The pancake breakfast was successful as we sold three bricks and several Raffle tickets, along with the freewill donations for the breakfast.
We discussed further fundraising events. We are looking into a Spaghetti Supper. Details to follow.
Donation Committee ~ Bridget went over the Business and Alumni contact list. Follow up from various members and who they contacted and the outcome was discussed. Many people say they are going to do something, but now is the time to follow up and collect funds.
General Contractor Update ~ Nathan said the lights are up and McAninch will be coming to finish up the work that was part of our bid with them. We are developing a timeline and responsible party to keep the project on track and have it football ready for the inner squad game on August 20th, 2010. Our first home game is August 27, 2010
Irrigation is nearly ready to be installed, but we decided to wait on the bid from Bob Lenc Landscaping before proceeding.
Press Box : Nathan is getting pricing for steel for the pressbox priced and footings will need to be poured soon for the press box and scoreboard.
We need to do some seeding with rain coming this weekend. Jim will look into getting the detention pond sodded when the football field is done.
We are in need of parents of the elementary and middle school kids to work the Spring ISU game as a fundraising effort for the stadium project. We need 25 adults to work two concession stands. The spring game will begin at 2:00, so work time will probably be noon. Since this is the day of Prom, many committee members and highschool parents will not be able to work. We are asking the younger athletes parents to step up and volunteer to work this event. Contact Jeanette Boderman mjboder@earthlink.net or Beth Krehbiel bak@tometichengineering.com to sign up to work.
Our next meeting will be April 14th in the Granger school library at 6:00 pm.
If you know of anyone wishing to be a part of this email list, please contact tlmay11@gmail.com and we will get your name added to keep you informed of the project.
