W-G Parents:

The MS-HS staff is participating in professional development opportunities to increase their awareness of available technological applications for teaching and learning (Web 2.0 tools). This was enlightening for all and generated a buzz around a new way of delivering instruction and learning. I learned about what teachers need to know to incorporate technology into the classroom. First they need to know what content(Content Knowledge) they are teaching. It may be fractions in math or compound interest or some form of poetry or some time in history. The next thing they need to know is their pedagogy. (Pedagogical Knowledge)(pedagogy is a fun sounding term of how they are going to teach something. It may be through lecture, cooperative learning, individual practice....) Then the last knowledge is the knowledge of technology. We have been focusing on the last knowledge of technology. We also have to pick and choose some that we learn because of what technology we have to use.

Next week is Staff Appreciation Week. If you would like to shock a MS or HS teacher, have your student send them a note or an email thanking them for something the teacher did. Maybe even send one to an elementary teacher they respected!

Mark your calendar for May 10th, the 52nd Modern Music Concert will be held that evening. This event was inadvertently left off the Monthly newsletter so I wanted to give everyone a "heads-up." Details next week.

We are winding down the year and the weather is getting nice! Please continue to encourage your daughters and sons to stay up on their studies.
