W-G Parent Email(5-24-10)

Another busy week. Looking back we had a great time at the 5 and 6th grade mixer. A lot of energy! (Maybe Mr. Bermel is getting old??) The students seemed to have a fun time! Thanks to the staff and parents who were able to help put this on.

The 5th graders
then visited the Middle School and went to a class and lunch with a MS Student. It is a little nerve racking going to a new place but I think at the end the 5th graders felt comfortable being here. We will also have a time in the fall were the student can come in and walk around to the different rooms and open their lockers.

The Middle school concert was a hit.
I am not sure but the sixth grade band seemed to steal the show. Everyone did a great job!! I appreciate the support you as parents give to the fine arts programs. The auditorium was almost full! Thanks to everyone who attended on a beautiful spring night!

Again continue to encourage you sons and daughters to stay up with their studies. They get pulled many different directions this time of year.

Sorry about any typos or misspelling (I do not have any proofreaders here at school on Sunday Mornings!)
Have a great week!

Congratulations to the State track participants and all participating in Spring Sports‼

W-G Parent Email(5-14-10)

W-G Parents:

Project Lead the Way Grant(PLTW). I wanted to let everyone know that W-G received a $50,000 grant to start a PLTW program. The shortest way to describe the PLTW program is a High School Pre-Engineering program. This program will start at W-G in the fall of 2011. We need to buy some supplies for the classroom and have some pretty extensive training for our teacher who is teaching the class. The class will be open to ninth through twelfth graders. We will teach two classes here on campus with the last two classes being taught at the DMACC campus in Perry(Which is not built yet!) It is very exciting for our students it is also very exciting for me since I am a Math teacher by trade and a 40 page Grant application was not a favorite thing for me to tackle.

Attached is a graduation letter for SENIOR PARENTS!!
I want everyone to know we have a dress code at graduation for Seniors that the boys need to wear a shirt and tie, dress pants and dress shoes. This year, not one senior said one thing negative about the graduation dress code. In the 10 plus years of doing graduations, I have always heard students saying negative things about the dress code –even to the point that they weren’t going to attend their own graduation if they had to dress up! I thought that this years’ responses from students says a lot about them as the mature and responsible adults they’ve become and says something about you all as parents. Senior parents, a reminder that you were mailed a letter about the awards night on May 26th.

Again thank you for encouraging your sons and daughters to finish the year strong. I am probably the only person in the district who likes the weather rainy and overcast. The students and teachers are able to focus a lot better than when it is 75 and sunny. With the nicer weather and college students returning home, students sometimes do not make the best choices with underage drinking! Please check up on your students‼! I have been hearing rumors about "bonfires" and other outings that turn into underage drinking. We need to all work together on this!

Spaghetti Supper-- Thanks to all the people who volunteered their time and money for last night’s event. This includes parents, students, staff, and alumni. What a wonderful event! Thanks also to the many people who stopped in and ate spaghetti in support. Love to see that Hawk Pride!!! Check the Hawk Stadium Website for more info on that project!! http://wgstadium.webs.com/

Events are winding down for the year here at school!
